MELINDUNGI PUNA

Protect Puna

Translation of MELINDUNGI – Indonesian–English dictionary protect  [verb] to guard or defend from danger; to keep safe

Puna, my muse, is a stunning Sumatran Tigerβ€”one of the world's most critically endangered big cats. Native to the lush forests of Sumatra, Indonesia, these majestic tigers are the smallest of their species and face a heartbreaking reality: experts predict they could become the first large cat to go extinct in the 21st century if urgent action isn't taken.

Currently, Puna resides safely at The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, United Kingdom, where she is part of an essential breeding and conservation programme. I had the profound honor of being commissioned to sculpt Puna, channeling her beauty and spirit into a bronze sculpture designed to raise awareness for this King of the Jungle.

The title Melindungi Puna draws inspiration from the Indonesian word 'Melindungi,' meaning 'Protect.' This powerful word is embedded in the design, alongside sculpted Koruβ€”a symbol of new life, growth, strength, and peace. At the sculpture's heart lies the image of hands gently cradling a tiger paw, a poignant representation of our shared responsibility to safeguard these extraordinary creatures.

A percentage of every sale of Melindungi Puna directly supports The Big Cat Sanctuary's vital breeding programme, contributing to the preservation and future of Sumatran Tigers.

Through this sculpture, I hope to ignite passion, raise awareness, and inspire collective action to protect these magnificent animals. Together, we can make a difference.

Protect. Preserve. Melindungi.
